Last year we received news that Dodge Viper, one of Oklahoma’s most iconic sports cars, was officially declared dead. Now the Dodge Viper’s fate is sealed. The Detroit plant that manufactures the car will permanently close on August 31st after operating for more than 25 years.
Despite the Viper’s popularity through the years in Lawton, Oklahoma and across the United States, sales were extremely low. A small total of 630 were sold all of last year. Along with diminishing sales, a new federal safety standard that requires side-curtain air bags will come into effect September 1st, and unfortunately, the Viper’s body kit will not comply with the regulation.
Do not mourn the loss of the Viper, Oklahoma. There are many more exciting Dodge, Chrysler, RAM, and Jeep vehicles to replace it. Visit us at Lawton Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM on 215 SE Interstate Dr. in Lawton, Oklahoma to help find you a supercar that fulfills the unique qualities of the Dodge Viper.
