On April Fool’s Day of 2022, Dodge announced that although they will be producing an all electric vehicle, they will also be producing something more their style: a hydrogen powered vehicle, replacing the notorious Hellcat Charger with the Dodge Hydra. Unfortunately, this is an April Fool’s joke. If you fell for the joke, don’t beat yourself up about it, we fell for it too. However, we are wondering if this “joke” could become a reality? Dodge has revealed that in 2022 they will be introducing 3 NEW vehicles, and that’s not a joke.

Dodge Brotherhood of Muscle Rundown

The well known and loved Dodge Charger Muscle cars have been around since the 1960s and 70s. They are known for their incredible speed, horsepower, sound and style. With the ever changing requirements from lawmakers, Dodge has been able to keep their muscle cars up to date with no problem. However, the muscle car director admitted that they might have jumped the gun with announcing the Dodge EV due to pressure from their competitors. So, when Dodge revealed that they were going to be releasing the Dodge Hydra, a hydrogen powered vehicle in 2023, before the release of the EV set to release in 2024, we were skeptical.

Could Dodge Hydra be the Future?

The Parthenon Where The Dodge Hydra Could Exist

In the past, when people thought of cars of the future, a depiction of flying cars was often the expectation. But automakers have come up with an even more challenging and environmentally friendly car: A hydrogen powered vehicle. In the ongoing April Fools joke, the director of the muscle car development, spoke about the name “Hydra” comparing it to the mythological creature where if one head is cut off, two heads grow back. Chopping off the combustion aspect, the first head growing back would be an electric vehicle and the second head would be a hydrogen running vehicle. But this new name is not the only thing Dodge mentioned about upgrading. They talked about the possibility of a vehicle having 800 horsepower, which is notably higher than their past vehicles coming in at 400-600. Dodge automakers are asking all of the necessary questions of why someone would sell their 2021-2022 Dodge Hellcat and upgrade to the future vehicles that are taking over the market. With the 3 new Dodge cars, there is talk about new interior designs, better gas mileage, and an overall new and better feel to the muscle car design. If their goal is to make people want to switch to the new Dodge cars, then they are on the right track by including new upgrades in multiple aspects.
